Immigration Offenders Held In
Raids

Begawan - The Immigration Department Monday night inspected
seven locations in the Brunei Muara District, detained five foreign
workers; and issued eight special passes and one summons letter,
said the Acting Deputy Director of Immigration,
A senior immigration officer led
the 13' instalment of Ops Bongkar with 25 officers.
Brought to the BSB Police Station
for further investigation were two Filipino, two Thais and one
Bangladeshi.
A 29-year-old Filipino was found to
be in possession of an immigration pass expired since February 19,
2004. A 39-year-old Bangladeshi was believed to have rendered the
country and changed his name and date of birth. He could be charged
under chapter 12 (1) (c) of the Passport Act, Section 146.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old female on
a visit pass was found in a rented house with a local man. She was
given a special pass. The matter will be referred to the religious
authority.
A 26-year-old Indonesian man was
found with an Indonesian woman in a rented room. The couple said
they are happily married and their marriage certificate is kept by
their employer. They were given a special pass and the matter was
also referred to the religious agency.
A 30-year-old Indonesian woman was
found with an Indonesian man. Both were given special passes. The
matter was referred to the religious authority.
The public is welcome to report to
the Immigration Department suspected immigration violators by
calling hotlines 2383555, 2383777 or the Kuala Belait Enforcement
Section at 3331879, 3341938. The callers' identities would be kept
secret.
In a separate joint operation by
the Department of Fire and Rescue Services, Immigration Law
Enforcement, Labour Enforcement, Electrical Department and Royal
Brunei Police Force, 17 Filipinos were screened while waiting for
their employers to bring their passports. Three Filipinos were
detained at the BSB Police Station for further investigation.
The joint operation was aimed to
ensure foreigners, who stay in rented houses, have valid travel
documents. Fifty personnel led by Acting Director of Fire and Rescue
Services and Acting Director of Immigration carried out the
operations.
Two persons detained were confirmed
to have expired passes.
If found guilty, they could be
imprisoned for not more then six months and fined not more then
