Artists Wanted At Boos III St
Workshop

Begawan - Participants are welcome to participate in the
Workshop on Children's Books Illustration at the National Indoor
Stadium in Berakas from March 3-5, as a side-event to the Brunei
Book Fair 2007. Those interested will need to register early as the
number of participants is limited to 40, said Hjh Nortijah Hj Mohd
Hassan, head of Koperasi Serbaguna's Education Sub-Committee of the
Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), the organiser of the workshop.
"A participant will be charged $50
for the 3-day event, inclusive of refreshments," Hjh Nortijah said.
"The closing date for applications to the workshop will be February
22. Details on the workshop can be obtained from me at the Language
and Literature Bureau in Berakas, or by calling me at 238511."
The workshop will be conducted by
Jonathan Mallari of the Philippines, an expert illustrator, artist,
photographer, graphic designer and writer. Books with his
illustrations were published by Goodwill Bookstore Inc, a publishing
house participating in the Brunei Book Fair.
Among the objectives of the
workshop are providing expert guidance and basic assistance in
illustrating children's books and uncovering new local talents in
children's books illustration. Open to citizens and residents of the
country aged 15 years and above, participants at the workshop will
need to do illustrations based on text supplied by the DBP.
However, the rights of the workshop
products will be reserved by the DBP.
According to the DBP public
relations officer Hjh Siti Zaleha Hj Kaprawi, publication of
illustrations at the workshop will be sponsored by Brunei LNG Sdn
Bhd. "The company will publish 1,000 copies of the workshop products
to be distributed free to primary schools and libraries," she said. -- Courtesy of Borneo
