Seven Lions ‘Awakened’ For CNY

Begawan - An eye-dotting ceremony to `awaken' seven lions for
the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration on February 18 was held at
BLNG Lumut Recreational Sport Centre.
Present as the guest of honour was
Belait District Officer Awang Hj Mohammad bin Hj Abd Rahman and
wife.
The guest of honour officiated the
event by dotting the eye of one of the lions. According to the
Penghulu of Mukim Liang, Awang Hj Abd Hamid bin Momin, all the
lions belonged to the MPM Liang
Consultative council under its Chinese Cultural Bureau. Members from
the lion dance troupe even include Malays which shows the strong
cooperation between the Chinese and Malay communities.
Also attending the ceremony were
the Assistant Belait District Officer Awang Shaminan bin Hj Tengah
and wife.
He also performed the dotting of
the eve on one of the lions. Also present were committee members
from the Mukim Liang Consultative Council and villagers.
After the dotting ceremony, an
acrobatic performance was put up by members of the lion dance
troupe. Members of the troupe will be performing lion dances from
the first day until the 1511 day of the Chinese New Year. -- Courtesy of Borneo
