Belait Hakka Association Holds
Eye-Dotting Ceremony
By Hanni ABD
Kuala Belait
- The Belait Hakka Association marked the 'Hoi Gong' or
eye-dotting ceremony at the association's base in Kampong Pandan on
Sunday evening.
Present as the guest of honour was
Mr Liew Tow Fatt, the association's advisor who sponsored two new
lions and equipment costing over $200 to the Hakka Association Lion
Dance Troupe. Also present were Assistant President Lim Thian Ming
and other committee members.
The ceremony involved putting a dot
on the eyes of the lion before the start of the lion dance in order
to awaken its spirit.
The lion dance troupe will be
performing for three straight days during the Chinese New Year
celebration at association members' residences and business
establishments in the district.
One of the members of the
association said every new lion must be blessed by a ceremony to
awaken it as it is believed that any lions used at any kind of
events without being blessed or awakened will bring misfortune and
bad luck. -- Courtesy of Borneo
