Bandar Seri Begawan - Some 30,000 mini national flags for vehicles will be distributed this year in conjunction with this year's national day celebrations - an increase of 5,000 mini flags from last year.

This was stated by Pg Hj Manshor bin Pg Hj Jaya, co-secretary of the national day celebration sponsorship committee, during a press conference held yesterday at the conference room of The Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong.

"As has been the case in previous years, the distribution of mini flags is meant to bring the spirit of patriotism among the people of Brunei and a sense of celebration," said Pg Hj Manshor.

Distribution will continue in the other districts on February 17 from around gam.

More than 23,000 mini national flags have been allocated for Brunei-Muara District, while 3,000 flags will be given away in Belait District, 2,500 in Tutong District and the remaining 1,500 flags in the Temburong District.

Participants will be given light refreshments at the end of the parade at the Hassanal Bolkiah NationalStadium in Berakas.

Snr/Insp Md Salleh Harun said the roads that are to be used for the parade are Jalan Industri Beribi, Jln Babu Raja, Jln Nursing School, Jambatan 3 POK Ratna Setia Dato Setia Hj A A Hapidz (in front of Rizqun Hotel), Jln Abdul Razak Complex, Jln Gadong, Jln Kumbang Pasang, An Sekolah, Jln Kianggeh, Jln McArthur, Jln Yayasan, Jin Pretty, Jln Haji Basir, Jln Berakas and Jln Stadium Negara Hassanal Bolkiah.

Pg Hj Manshor further said the increase in the number of mini-flags this year would make more of an impression.

"We are hoping that with 30,000 mini-flags being distributed this year, we can see more cars with mini-flags on the road throughout the celebrations," he said.

"We have taken into account the complaints about the glue used in the mini-flags. We have redesigned the glue and are now using a better glue.

"The budget for the mini national flags is quite big, so we hope the public would have greater appreciation for them," he added.

Hj Manshor also hoped that those who have attached the mini-flags on their vehicles would leave them on until at least February 26, when the huge national flag will be lowered. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
