30,000 Mini-Flags To Be
Distributed Nationwide

Begawan - Some 30,000 mini national flags for vehicles will
be distributed this year in conjunction with this year's national
day celebrations - an increase of 5,000 mini flags from last year.
This was stated by Pg Hj Manshor
bin Pg Hj Jaya, co-secretary of the national day celebration
sponsorship committee, during a press conference held yesterday at
the conference room of The Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong.
"As has been the case in previous
years, the distribution of mini flags is meant to bring the spirit
of patriotism among the people of Brunei and a sense of
celebration," said Pg Hj Manshor.
Also present during the press
conference were Tuan Hj Gazali bin PO Jawatan Dalam Dato Seri Setia
Dr Hj Mohd Jamil Al Sufri, co-secretary of the national day
sponsorship committee and Snr/Insp Md Salleh Harun of the Road
Safety and Traffic committee.
For Brunei-Muara District,
distribution of the miniflags will begin on February 16 from around
2.30pm and will take place at three designated locations, namely The
Centrepoint in Gadong, Hua Ho Manggis Mall and the public bus
parking area in the capital.
Distribution will continue in the
other districts on February 17 from around gam.
More than 23,000 mini national
flags have been allocated for Brunei-Muara District, while 3,000
flags will be given away in Belait District, 2,500 in Tutong
District and the remaining 1,500 flags in the Temburong District.
Meanwhile in the morning of
February 16, the public are also welcome to join a. mini-flag parade
that is set to begin at 8.30am.
Those who wish to take part should
come at around 7.00am to the new Land Transport Department and at
the Gadong Light Industrial Area, where the mini national flags will
be given.
Pg Hj Manshor said based on last
year's figures, around 600 vehicles and motorcycles are expected to
be taking part in this year's parade. The parade will be joined by
several ministries and associations.
Participants will be given light
refreshments at the end of the parade at the Hassanal Bolkiah
NationalStadium in Berakas.
Snr/Insp Md Salleh Harun said the
roads that are to be used for the parade are Jalan Industri Beribi,
Jln Babu Raja, Jln Nursing School, Jambatan 3 POK Ratna Setia Dato
Setia Hj A A Hapidz (in front of Rizqun Hotel), Jln Abdul Razak
Complex, Jln Gadong, Jln Kumbang Pasang, An Sekolah, Jln Kianggeh,
Jln McArthur, Jln Yayasan, Jin Pretty, Jln Haji Basir, Jln Berakas
and Jln Stadium Negara Hassanal Bolkiah.
Pg Hj Manshor further said the
increase in the number of mini-flags this year would make more of an
impression.
"We are hoping that with 30,000
mini-flags being distributed this year, we can see more cars with
mini-flags on the road throughout the celebrations," he said.
"We have taken into account the
complaints about the glue used in the mini-flags. We have redesigned
the glue and are now using a better glue.
"The budget for the mini national
flags is quite big, so we hope the public would have greater
appreciation for them," he added.
Hj Manshor also hoped that those
who have attached the mini-flags on their vehicles would leave them
on until at least February 26, when the huge national flag will be
