Marine Life Themed Stamps Released

Begawan - The Postal Services department have launched the
first set of a series of jointly issued Brunei Malaysia stamps
themed; Unique Ocean Life. The stamps were issued with the
objectives to strengthening existing relations between Brunei
Darussalam and Malaysia and as latest items for philatelists in both
countries.
The Malaysian High Commissioner to
the sultanate, His Excellency Datuk Ali Abdullah said, "We want to
cooperate in as many areas as possible, whatever areas, ranging from
economy to social health, to defence."
The stamps were launched at the
Main Post Office in Bandar Seri Begawan, by the Deputy Minister of
Communications, Dato Paduka Hi Yusoff Hj Abdul, Hamid.
The Postal Service Department said
that this joint endeavour was to encourage the younger generations,
especially schoolchildren to develop interests in collecting stamps.
However, the department said that it was up to the parents to instil
the interests in their children as collecting stamps can become one
of the most popular hobbies. The Department is so set on promoting
stamp collecting among children that it had set up a Standing Order
Deposit Account (Soda Kid) which enables them to reserve the stamps
that are about to be released.
The Official First Day Cover with
the Bruneian-Malavsiar, themed stamps is being sold and distributed
in both countries. Two kinds of the themed stamps entitled Ran
Buntal Berintik and Bebakan Takat, are issued in Brunei.
Another two sets, titled Lea]
Scorpion and the Siput Kurita Berkebuk, were released in Malaysia
yesterday.
This first series of themed stamps
called 'The unique sea life in Brunei and Malaysia', were designed
by Ali Hj Abdul Ibrahim. The stamps come in denominations of $0.45
