Bandar Seri Begawan - More Bruneian mini national flags will be distributed for this year's 23rd national day celebrations, with 30,000 of the mini flags produced this year as compared to 25,000 last year.

Pg Hj Manshor Pg Hj Jaya, head of the mini-flag distribution committee, yesterday said that an additional 5,000 mini flags will be made available to all the country's four districts following an increase in public demand.

"The Minister of Culture,

Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (R) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud, will launch the distribution of the mini flags on Friday, February 16," he said during a media conference.

About 600 people, including volunteers, will be at a parade which will take off from the Rizqun International Hotel at lam that day, he added.

Participants in the parade will have either the left-hand side or the top of their cars attached with the mini national flags explained Pg Manshor, who is also the co-secretary of the national day sponsorship committee. The parade is scheduled to pass through 18 different locations, including Beribi Industrial Estate, Jalan Tasek Lama, Jalan Berakas and Jalan Stadium Hassanal Bolkiah on' the morning of February 16. The parade is also scheduled to pass through the Centre point Hotel, Hua Ho, Manggis Mall, and the capital's public bus station area in the afternoon at 2.30pm.

The distribution of the mini national flags will continue throughout the night at the Centre point Hotel area.

In addition, committee members will make their way to the Belait, Tutong and Temburong districts to give out some 3,000, 2,500 and 1,500 mini flags respectively. Twenty three thousands mini flags have been allocated for the Brunei-Muara district. Meanwhile the public is advised not to take down the mini-flags before February 26, as a way to show their spirit of patriotism for the national day celebrations. This will be the eighth time the mini flags are being distributed to mark the historical occasion.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
