UBD Pioneer's With Its Digital
Library
By Sobrina Rosli
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Students of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) now
have access to various university libraries worldwide following the
launch of its Digital e-Library yesterday.
The new project enables UBD
students to access universities abroad through the Online Public
Access Catalogue.
It will make research more
convenient; at a click of the mouse, students availing themselves of
the e-library can get a listing of digitised versions of scholarly
articles and books on a specific topic.
The e-library supports the nation's
modernisation plans.
The installation of the e-library
system was made by Alif Technologies Co along with its business
partners, Frontline and Infogrid.
The library facilities have also
been improved through the provision of additional PC terminals for
staff and students to search for information in the library.
A special digitisation laboratory
was also set up to develop the content of the university's digital
library service.
During a ceremony to launch the new
library service yesterday, Alif Technologies signed the Virtual
Library System Brunei Darussalam project, which will establish
online library systems in government schools nationwide.
Meanwhile, UBD is also organising
its Information Week on February 5-10. -- Courtesy of
