Woman Cries Foul Over Ineffective Slimming Course

Bandar Seri Begawan - Health advocates urged a beauty firm to refund money to a woman who decided to withdraw herself from a slimming course after finding the treatment ineffective and over alleged side effects after using slimming pills.

The woman had earlier sought the firm's help to make her slim by paying in, advance for several slimming packages that cost about $5,000.

However, the woman opted out of the course after five treatments as the slimming pills she took gave her stomach ache and she also found blood in her urine.

She also did not record any weight loss after five treatments even though she was promised that she would lose some weight after the first treatment. She was told by the firm that her money could not be refunded as it was her own decision to quit the programme.

Health advocates said the woman's money must be refunded as it was not her own choice to stop the course.

"The course required her to take slimming pills which are not suitable for her.

"The question also arises whether the beauty firm has the permission to dish out slimming tablets without approval from the relevant authority," they said.

The woman has since registered for another course at another beauty house which does not require her to take slimming tablets.

Health advocates urged the woman to lodge a police report and to surrender the slimming tablets to the authority for investigation. "The beauty house must return her money and charge her only for the treatments she had undergone. They should also stop giving out slimming pills to customers without prior consent from the authority," they said. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
