New Youth Development Trainees
Begin Orientation

Begawan - One hundred and ninety five students of the
2007-2008 intakes, comprising of 77 male and 118 female, registered
for training and selected courses at the Youth Development Centre,
Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport yesterday. This was followed by
a two-week orientation programme to familiarise the new trainees
with the curriculum and staff, as well as to get to know each other
better, prior to the start of their training proper.
The orientation began with
welcoming address by the head of the centre, Hjh Fatimah bte Pehin
Penyurat Hj Awang Salleh. In her address, Hjh Patimah ;ongratulated
the new students and explained the rules of the centre.
The orientation programme would
comprise activities like mass prayers, marches and briefing from
BINA and IPA officers.
Training at the centre is open to
citizens and permanent residents of Brunei aged 18 and above, single
and physically fit, who are unable to continue with formal education
and are able to read, write and do simple arithmetic. However
trainees for computer and office management courses must have 2 GCE
`O' level credits.
The duration of a training
programme is 18 months. In the first nine months, the trainees will
strive to acquire marketable skills, and in the next nine months,
they will venture into the self-development programme, which is work
attachment at either the government or private sector. .

to help local youth improve their worth, while boosting their
