Minister Meets Teachers On
Religious Education

Begawan - In an effort to carry out the Titah of His Majesty
the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan that all layers of the society
receive a "complete religious education'", a meeting was held
yesterday between the Minister of Religious Affairs and religious
teachers for Menengah I, II and III in Tutong District. The meeting
took place at the Tutong community hall.
The session was a continuation of a
series of meetings between the minister and religious teachers of "Pengetahuan
Ugama Islam (IRK)".
The minister was accompanied to the
meeting by Dato Paduka Hj Ishaaq bin Hj Abdullah, Deputy Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ustazah Hajah Kasmah
binti Haji Siput, Director of Islamic Studies, Awg Hj Mat Zain bin
Haji Muntol, Head of Belait District Religious Officers and Senior
Officers at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
The session commenced with a
welcoming speech by Sheikh Haji Abdul Khalid bin Haji Sheikh Yahya,
Tutong District Islamic Studies Officer. This was followed by a
discussion chaired by Ustazah Hajah Seimah bte Hj Abd Salam, Senior
Religious Officer, Department of Islamic Studies.
The minister Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Hj
Mohd Zain, stressed the importance of maintaining and improving the
quality of teaching and the IRK curriculum in government and private
schools.
He said, "The subject of Islamic
Religious Knowledge (IRK) made compulsory for all students in
secondary 1. Ii and III will not only ensure students will be
receiving a complete religious education but most importantly be
able to practise it perfectly, especially in perfecting recitals and
rukun-rukun sembahyang and chapters Thaharah".
"This religious education
curriculum must also fit the students' age so it would not be too
difficult for them to follow," he added.
In an effort to ensure that no
Muslim students in secondary schools do not know how to perform
prayers in "perfect order", the minister touched on the plan of the
Department of Islamic Studies to hold tuition classes during school
term holiday.
"This matter is still under
planning and further information will be notified by the Department
of Islamic Studies."
The minister touched on the need
for male teaching staff to restrengthen the sahsiah and personal
development to be more effective in fulfilling the needs of the
Muslim community.
The minister and his delegation
also heard the comments and ideas from the religious teachers on the
syllabus taught under the IRK in secondary I, II and III. -- Courtesy of Borneo
