By Yusrin Junaidi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Brufa Installation Night and the launching
ceremony of BRUFA Directory 2006-2008 was held Saturday night at Hua
Ho Mall Manggis Ballroom in Jalan Muara.
Present as the guest of honour was
Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar bin Hj
Apong, Minister of Communications. The event was also attended by
members of BRUFA and other invited guests.
The ceremony began with an opening
dance followed by a welcoming speech by the president of BRUFA and a
speech by the guest of honour.
"I would like to applaud this
association on its success in producing a second BRUFA directory for
the year 20062008. This directory reflects the association's unity,
mutual interest and cooperation," he said.
Freight forwarding is ap important
aspect of transportation and one of the most important links in the
supply-chain industry.
As in any business, the Minister of
Communications said, the customer is the thrust of this industry.
In Brunei's context, he noted that
the lack of local population and trade with other countries, to an
extent, may be considered to affect the earnings of the local
freight forwarders and therefore the growth of the industry.
"All around the world, the role of
freight forwarders has evolved from only an agent providing
transport and moving the load from one point to another, to that of
a provider of a wider range of value added services. Now freight
forwarding, according to the International Federation of Freight
Forwarders Associations (FIATA), includes service that ranges from
the carriage, consolidation, storage, handling, packing to
distribution of goods as well as ancillary and advisory services
related to but not limited to customs and fiscal matters," he said.
He also touched on the MoU signed
by Brunei and the other three BIMP-EAGA member countries of
Indonesia. Malaysia and the Philippines on the expansion of air
linkages. He said that in this MoU, the designated airline of each
member country is allowed to operate scheduled and chartered
international air services for not only the carriage of passengers
and baggage, but also for cargoes and mails with third, fourth and
fifth freedom traffic rights,-- Courtesy of Borneo
