Major Roadblock In Belait Catches Over 20 Offenders
By Liza Mohd

Bandar Seri Begawan - Sixteen motorists were issued with police summons during a major roadblock on Saturday night jointly conducted by RBPF's Gadong and Belait Investigation/ Traffic Departments.

The offenders were those caught with expired road tax and driving licences as well as for illegal modifications to their vehicles and tinted glasses.

They will be brought to court to face charges under the Traffic Act.

Twelve motorists were meanwhile slapped with fines for illegal modifications, most involving non-standardised licence plates.

The roadblocks were set up in three prominent areas - along Jalan Tengah Panaga, Jalan Rasau and Sungai Liang. They are normally frequented by motorists travelling to and from KB, Seria and BSB.

Ninety traffic officials and police personnel were involved in the operation, which was held from 7.30pm to 2am, led by Supt Ibrahim Hj Hassan of the Police - Head Operations Section.

According to Supt Ibrahim, the roadblock was a routine police operation to instil awareness among the public on safety issues and also minimise traffic accidents in light of the Sultanate's soaring number of fatalities and car mishaps. Such an operation, which also keeps a lookout for those talking on mobile phones or not fastening their seat belts while driving, will be extended to other districts soon, he added. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
