By Hadi DP Mahmud

Bandar Seri Begawan - The body of Marelle Magpoc Raya, 20, Filipino, was found yesterday at Tungku beach, 17 hours after she was reported missing by friends who went swimming at Berakas beach the other day.

Marelle's body was washed ashore at Tungku beach and was discovered by a jogger at 7.45am, according to investigators from the Royal Brunei Police.

The body of Raya, who was in the sultanate on a visitor's pass, was moved to the mortuary at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital (Ripas).

Violeta Agagad Atote, who was also swept away by strong currents together with Raya and two other friends, is still in Ripas' intensive care unit on life support system, said investigators.

"According to the authorities at the SICU, her condition is 50/50. She is currently on life support machine," said investigators. The two other drowning victims were Chee Kong Chui, 57, Malaysian, and Maria Stella, 21, Filipino. They were part of a group of 11 people celebrating a friend's birthday at the Berakas Forest Reserve. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
