BSP Milestones In 2006

Begawan - Buriei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP),
Brunei LNG, Brunei Shell Tankers and Brunei Shell Marketing achieved
a number of significant achievements in 2006.
For instance, BSP surpassed its
targets for both safe oil production and gas sales to BLNG in 2006.
At 214,000 barrels a day, oil production. Attained its target for
the first time in seven years and reached an all-time high in 25
years.
BSP
also sold more gas than ever before, with the highest total
production of oil and gas in the last 25 years at a level of 434,000
barrels of oil equivalent This was stated." by Dr Grahaeme
Henderson, the Man-aging Director
of BSP, who was speaking during the BSP MD Long Service; Emblem
Dinner at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong yesterday. It was
organised to honour long serving employees of BSP, BLNG and BSM.
"We successfully crossed several
major milestones last year," Dr Henderson said, adding that some of
the achievements were world class.
One such achievement was the
Champion West Project, which has been a challenging engineering feat
for BSP, as it is one of the world's most technically advanced
platforms with snake wells and remote operation.
The reservoir is one of the largest
undeveloped resources in Brunei and can be expected to contribute
significantly towards the country's oil and gas production.
"We also delivered ahead of
schedule first oil from the Seria North field, taking just 27 months
from exploration discovery - a world-class performance in any record
book," the Managing Director of BSP said. "The development of our
people, together with safety and performance, is one of the three
topmost priorities of our business."
In terms of people development, he
said, "nurturing and grooming Bruneian talent is a key thrust of our
development policy "We continued to make great strides in our
Bruneianisation programme last year," Dr Henderson said, adding that
currently more than 90 per cent of BSP's staff members were locals.
"The company has continued to
accelerate its strategic, long-term investment in local talent
development, the Managing Director of BSP said "In 2006 alone, there
were 97 BSP scholars and in service students, including the
brightest and best from the nation pursuing overseas undergraduate
and Masters programmes in various professional disciplines." Brunei
LNG too hadan outstanding year, as the company celebrated its first
ever safety milestone to 10 million man-hours without injury.
Furthermore, BLNG attained a new, all-time high record for
production with 218 cargoes delivered to its customers last year.
Brunei Shell Marketing, meanwhile,
achieved an outstanding safety performance, where it reached an
impressive four million man-hours without injury since 2001. As for
Brunei Shell Tankers, the company's overall outstanding performance
stood out exceptionally when its B-class fleet delivered a total of
167 cargoes to customers in Japan, the Managing Director of BSP
said.
"The number of Bruneian seafarers
last year increased to a total of 299, comprising 79 officers and
220 ratings," he added.
A total of 265 employees from the
three companies were celebrated during the dinner as an appreciation
for their loyalty and dedication.
Present at guest of honour was
Minister of Energy Pehin Dato Awg Hj Yahya who is also the Chairman
of the Board of Directors of BSP and BLNG other members of the Board
of Directors also attended last night's dinner.
Meanwhile, a speech was delivered
by Hj Mahmud bin Hj Idris who spoke on behalf of the emblem
recipients.
Sixteen employees received their
35-year service award while 58 received their 30-year service award.
A total of 191 received their 25-year service award, of which 160
were from BSP, 23 from BLNG and eight from BSM.
Among the recipients of the 30-year
service award was Mr Fred Smeenk, the Managing Director of Brunei
