Bandar Seri
Begawan - Rumpun Seni Lakon Brunei Darussalam (Rusila), an
association dedicated towards uniting actors and actresses in the
Sultanate, feted two veteran artistes recently at the RBA Golf Club,
Berakas to show its appreciation to Radio Television Brunei (RTB)
for handing out awards to the duo last Saturday night.
Veteran actor Hj Rais Banih was
awarded Insan Seni (Artistic Person) and Best Male Actor, while
veteran actress Pg Hajah Maskuin received the award for Best Female
Award at Anugerah RTB 2007.
The duo was best known for their
comical portrayal of husband and wife characters in the comical
drama series Liau Badar, produced by RTB. Present as the guest of
honour at the event was Pg Hj Jainuddin Pg Hj Jaya, a local
businessman, who has been a great supporter of performing arts in
the country.
Meanwhile, Hj Johari Pehin Dato Hj
Omar said that the award was an honour not only to the duo, but also
to all artistes.
"A time has come where artistes are
now recognised. Hopefully, the award event, which was held for the
first time this year, would become an annual affair in recognition
towards performing arts in Brunei," he said. Hj Abd Rahman Yusof,
the adviser of Rusila, also.extended his gratitude to the national
television channel and hoped more awards will be given to other
branches of arts too.
He said it is Rusila's
responsibility to fight for the rights of artistes, as only the
artistes would champion the rights of their counterparts and
understood their struggle.
Meanwhile, Hj Rais Banih said the
event organised by Rusila meant a lot to him as it showed that
artistes have come together to support in what they believed in.
"I wish to thank RTB for the award.
I hope more artistes will continue to win awards in the future.
"My advice for artistes is to
continue contributing towards their country in the area they know
best," he said. Pg Hajah Maskuin on the other hand expressed her
appreciation to Rusila for the reception and hoped more artistes
would join the association.-- Courtesy of Borneo
