Forestry Officers At Asean CHM
Training
By Rosh Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A One-Day training session on Asean Forest Clearing
House Mechanism (CHM) was held at the Forest Department on Thursday,
to promote, and familiarise the participants on, the use of the CHM
as a tool for forestry-related knowledge and information sharing.
The session was organised and
conducted by the Asean-German Regional Forest Programme (ReFOP) for
officers and staff of the Forestry Department, as part of the CHM
Roadshow.
Unlike other internet services, the
CHM was developed primarily to enable Asean member countries to
manage forestry related information systematically, while improving
the users' interaction by allowing them to upload and download
information from or into the system, and to comment on documents in
order to facilitate information exchange as well as communication
among the users.
The training will expedite further
the information exchange network between the Brunei Forestry
Department and other Asean members, foreign agencies and
international institutions within the Asean CHM framework.
It is also part of the department's
programme under its human resource development strategy in building
up staff capacity by making use of CHM facilities as information
sources, and in initiating activities under the Asean Cooperation in
Forestry. The CHM was officially launched at the 8th Meeting of
Asean Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) on August 18, 2005 in
Phnom Penh, Cambodia.-- Courtesy of Borneo
