Bandar Seri
Begawan - Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) yesterday held a
presentation ceremony for the Top Three Collectors who had helped
raised funds for Seeing Is Believing (SIB) at last year's Brunei
Marathon 2006. The event was held at SCB 's Main Office.
The first prize of a return ticket
to Brisbane, Australia was presented to Faridah Hannim Yussof who
had collected $7,630.
"This is the first time I've ever
run a marathon, and it is also the first time I've collected funds
for charity," she said.
Ahomemaker
and entrepreneur, Faridah HannimYussof, ran her first marathon for
the Seeing Is Believing cause, courageously committing her self to
10km and proudly completed it. She managed to fit training into her
busy schedule and her contribution of $7,630 was the highest record
ever collected in the two years of marathon in Brunei by any
individual.
First runner-up, Mr Yap Choow Tun
was no stranger to SCB's SIB. This is the second year he has
participated and contributed to the SIB initiative and won a place
in the top three for two consecutive years. What was more honourable
was that Mr Yap donated his prize to SIB as he said he believes in
giving to those in need.
Yap Choow Tun and Oi Mee, had
collected $4,596 and $1,987 won the prizes of a return ticket to
Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur respectively. The top collector among the
staff of Standard Chartered Bank staff, who raised $1,160, was
Muhammad Yazid bin Dato Paduka Haji Yakub, who received a
certificate of recognition.
During the event, Ms Tiew Siew
Chuen, Chief Executive Officer at SCB, praised the outstanding
efforts of the three individuals:
Of the more than the 3,000 runners
who participated in the Brunei Marathon 2006, more than 40 per cent
of the participants ran for SIB. For this tremendous achievement,
SCB would like to thank all the SIB runners and collectors for their
efforts and contributions. -- Courtesy of Borneo
