Prompt Action At Jin Residency

Bandar Seri Begawan - A landslide near the Arts and Handicrafts Training Centre, Jalan Residency in the capital on Thursday evening forced a two-way road to close down.

Upon receiving a call from a member of the public at 8.24 pm on Thursday, the Fire and Rescue Department dispatched 15 personnel. led by Commanding Officer of `A' Operation HajiAhmad bin Haji Mohd Daud, to the scene.

Also present were 20 personnel from Public Works Department, officers from Bandar Police Station and two personnel from Women's Operation Unit as well as Director General of Public Works Department Haj i Mohd Zain and Acting Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue Department Lim Hock Guan.

According to Haji Ahmad, tree branches were trimmed to facilitate the PWD's work on the following day and to prevent the soil from sliding to the road.

Three vehicles parked on the side of the road were also towed away while barriers, chopped off to make way for the construction of a temporary road for motorists.

Meanwhile, the Natural Disaster Management Centre advised motorists to use Jalan Subok for the time being so as to avoid unnecessary incidents.
