Gearing Up For Sea Game

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council called on all sports associations to raise the standard and performance of their athletes in preparation for the upcoming 24th SEA Games in Korat, Thailand from Dec 6-15.

"Each national sporting association should have already thought of strategies or the best method in raising the performance of each athlete. Past achievements need to be used as reference and guidance to raise the standard', of achievement, meaning we need to learn from past mistakes and faults," HRH Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah stated in his Sabda at the preparation meeting for the SEA Games between Brunei Darussalam Olympic Council and national sports associations at the conference room of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday.

HRH also highlighted the past achievements of Brunei in the SEA Games and we must not sit on our laurels.

"Therefore we need to come out with a solution together on how we can raise the achievement of athletes to a higher level."

"We see the development of sports in other Asean nations always on the rise. I believed that the increase in performance is connected with the proper organisation of sport development programme. Therefore we must work hard to overcome weaknesses in ourselves to gain success and at the same time put Brunei Darussalam on the map of international sporting events."

The President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council also urged leaders of various national sports associations to prepare complete sport development programme including sports associations that need financial assistance to purchase equipments.

His Royal Highness added: "For financial assistance in sending athletes to attend courses and training to raise their performance in regional and international competitions, they need to submit their in depth proposal to the Director of Youth and Sport, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in one month's time from now for evaluation before referring to the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council for reference and for the appropriate action to be taken.

"But the final decision will depend on the evaluation by executive members of National Sport Council and the limitation on financial resources Brunei Darussalam National Council."

"The financial assistance acts as an additional aid, apart from the support of the Government off His Majesty Irons the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport," His Royal Highness added.

During the meeting, HRH Prince Hj Sufri l3olkiah also received reports on preparation of each national sports association for the upcoming 24' SEA Games.
