Setting the Stage for National Day

Begawan - The stage is being set for our 23,d National Day
with government agencies, private companies and schools doing their
bit to make the celebration a memorable one.
The Bulletin yesterday had a look
at the preparations for the grand performance to be held at Taman
Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifa.ddien in the capital.
Performers from the government and
private sectors held rehearsals at the indoor stadium and
multipurpose hall in Berakas from Sam to 2pm.While students have
been busy preparing for their role in the National Day extravaganza.
At STPRI, the students have been
practising their dance routines since mid January, teachers told the
Bulletin. Cikgu Hjh Aisa Hj Sahdan and Chong Chee Kong said that
initially the rehearsals took place daily but now they are conducted
on alternate days. Some 240 Form 4 students from STPRI will
participate in the grand performance.
The rehearsals are taking place
under the watchful eye of trainers from the Ministry of Culture,
Youth and Sports. Suziyana and Dk Nurfadilah, who are field
performance trainers from the ministry, told the Bulletin at STPRI
that about 40 trainers are overseeing the rehearsals at
participating schools in the four districts.
The STPRI students are learning a
routine called core group performance which will be performed on the
stage as well as background field performance.
More than 7,000 participants from
government ministries and departments, private sector as well as
schools are expected to perform at the Taman on National Day.
The construction of the stages and
stands is under way at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien.
Work started on Jan 8 on a
grandstand which will be 368 ft long and can accommodate nearly
2,000 people. It was learned that workers from the Public Works
Department are constructing this grandstand as well as a choir
stage.
Meanwhile, the private sector is
building a 120 square ft stage. The stage, which is more than 10
feet high, is being built by 18 workers from Sunlit who are expected
to complete their work in a week's time.
The schoolchildren are expected to
hold their rehearsals at the Taman on Feb 5.
