Advanced Course For Firemen

Begawan - Thirty-nine firefighters from Brunei's four
districts will today complete a two-week theoretical and practical
basic course on handling hazardous materials.
The course, the first of its kind
held in the country, was conducted by the Training Centre at the
Department of Fire and Rescue headquarters in Berakas.
In an exercise yesterday, the
firefighters were trained on how to handle an anthrax threat and
rescue victims. Previously, Brunei's firefighters were sent to
Holland and Malaysia to attend such courses.
He said they had also conducted
exercises and drills that dealt with other threats, such as a bird
flu epidemic. The participants of the course will receive their
certificates in a ceremony to be held tomorrow.
Meanwhile, a promotion ceremony was
held yesterday for two senior Fire and Rescue officers. Senior
Superintendent Lim Hock Guan of the National
Disaster Management Centre was
promoted to Acting Deputy Director of the Fire and Rescue
Department. Senior Superintendent Hjh Siti Mayang Hj Husin, the
department's head of communication and control section, was promoted
to Assistant Director (support services) of the Fire and Rescue
Department.
