By Asri Razak
Bandar Seri
Begawan - While government jobs remain attractive in the
country, some students are beginning to find employment in the
private sector appealing.
One of the ways by which some
students seek jobs in private companies is by getting scholarships
offered by the bigger employers in the sultanate.
Aural Majeedah Aji, 18, said
students in the sultanate after completing their 'A' level
examination look for scholarships to further their studies.
Big private companies like Shell
offer scholarships to students who excel in their studies, thus
allowing them to pursue higher education abroad, said Amal, who
recently received 'A' level examination results.
Employers nowadays becoming more
demanding of impressive qualifications, a degree from a prestigious
university has be come more important, said Amal.
She added, government jobs are
currently the most sought after by many students once completing
their higher education.
Speaking to The Brunei Times,
Norhashidah Abd Rahman 20, said students with high marks have the
opportunity and potential to be offered a scholarship to study
abroad.
She said she hoped more companies
in the private sector would also put a premium on work experience
and not just focus on qualifications, such as a degree from
reputable universities. It would also be ideal if more employers are
interested in providing training opportunities for their employees,
the student added.
