Motorists Told To Exercise Extra Caution
By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - Police advised motorists to drive with extra caution in view of the prevailing wet season that leads to slippery road conditions.

Motorists are also reminded to follow traffic rules and regulations to avoid any untoward incidents - be patient and not to speed because speed can kill.

Every motorist has a responsibility to ensure that our roads are safe for road users.

Meanwhile, construction workers had cleared and cut down overgrown tree branches along the main road near the Mentiri roundabout.

They also cleared monsoon drains at flash flood prone areas. They pointed out that poor drainage system is the main cause of flash floods at these areas during heavy downpours.

The move is part of the relevant authority's early preparation to avoid any untoward mishap not only to motorists but other road users.

There have been a number of landslides occurring in the country causing concern to the public. A recent landslide in Tasik Meradun area had led to the closure of the road to motorists to enable workers to clear the mud.

Meanwhile, recent floods inundated remote areas in Mukim Labi, leaving about 300 people stranded and unable to head to work and attend schools. The waterlevel in these places rose to three feet, making small vehicles unable to pass the affected areas.

No injuries or casualties were reported in these incidents. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
