Bruneians Need To Be Aware Of Their Safety In Miri
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Travellers from the Sultanate to Miri are advised to be careful about their safety as another crime involving a Bruneian family was reported a few days ago in the neighbouring city. Travellers to the town said they watched in horror as a criminal tried to force open the door of a Brunei-registered vehicle with children locked inside in broad daylight.

The parents of the children apparently locked them inside the car while they looked for merchandises inside a supermarket.

"A thief came near the car and tried to force open the door so he could drive it away. We tried to alert the parents in the supermarket. However the thief ran away quickly when he saw people near the car before we managed to alert the parents," they said.

With the border town expected to be thronged by civil servants during this weekend, frequent travellers are urged to be more careful when they are in Miri.

"Just like in previous years after bonus payout, shopping complexes in Miri are expected to be visited by Bruneians including Chinese New Year celebrants.

"Therefore travellers not only need to look after their vehicles but they are also urged to be aware of their money and personal possessions including jewelleries," they said.
