3 Indonesians Arrested For Abusing
Work Passes

Begawan - Three Indonesian foreign workers were arrested by
the Belait Immigration Enforcement Section for abusing their work
passes and for failing to produce valid documents pertaining to
their stay in the country.
The foreign workers were detained
by eight Immigration 'officials led by Senior Immigration Officer in
an operation codenamed Bongkar 11/2007'.
The raid took place in the morning
and targeted four construction sites and shophouse areas in Lumut
and Kuala Belait.
According to Immigration reports,
two of the arrested suspects were employed to work in Brunei as
house helpers but during the inspection, both were found installing
house roofs at a construction site.
Both suspects were detained to
facilitate investigation for breaching Rule 15 (3) of the
Immigration Act, and they could face a fine of $600 each.
In addition, the employer caught
hiring the workers will be brought to court and charged under
Chapter 55 (1) (e) Immigration Act Paragraph 17.
The operation lasted three hours.
The Immigration Enforcement Section
reminded members of the public that the section will carry out more
inspections on foreign workers.
