Lao PM Visits Rimba Primary School

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Prime Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh, and yesterday morning visited Rimba 1 Primary School as part of his three-day official visit to the Sultanate.

On hand to greet the prime minister was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdul Rahman, Minister of Education.

Accompanying the visiting Lao prime minister was Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Suyoi.

During the visit, the Lao premier was presented with a briefing of Brunei's educational system by Acting Director of Schools, Hjh Aishah Hj Mohd Husain.

This was followed by a briefing on the school's background delivered by the school headmistress, Pg Zaiton Pg Salleh. The prime minister and delegates were then brought on a tour around the school facilities.

The visiting group was brought to the ICT lab where they were shown an interactive whiteboard connected to a computer. The Lao prime minister was given the opportunity to operate the interactive whiteboard.

The delegation also had a chance to see the Design and Technology laboratory where teaching and learning are implemented in an active studio. There, the students are encouraged to build and construct electronic vehicles or household items and make use of a Micromill machine.

The tour also included a visit to the school library where some students were encouraged to do a story-telling presentation and silent reading activity.

The group also had the opportunity to witness extra curricular activities at the school field, comprising physical exercises and drills, martial arts or Silat performance and a futsal game.

Towards the end of the visit, the premier visited the kindergarten section of the school where young students participated in pre-school activities.

The school visit concluded with the Lao prime minister and Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdul Rahman signing the visitor's book, which was followed by a group photo session. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
