Information Week At UBD Library
By Azrol Azmi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Universiti Brunei Darussalam Library will be
holding an Information Week from February 5-10. This would be the
fourth time that the university will be holding such an event.
A number of activities have been
planned as part of this week-long event to signify the importance of
information such as exhibitions, book fairs, Information Literacy
road shows and career talks.
The highlight of the event will be
the official launching of the University Digital Library System
(e-Library@ubd portal) and the signing of a contractual agreement
for the Virtual Library Systems (VILIS) project.
e-Library@ubd is one of the
Ministry of Education's digital library initiatives, which was
initiated in May 2005. The project will include digitising the
university's information resources and publications, upgrading the
library management systems, and implementing the UBD Library's
digital library portal.
VILIS
is one of the Ministry of Education's digital library projects that
will lead to the establishment of an integrated digital library
system for higher educational institutions, secondary and primary
schools in the country as well as the application of other library
management technologies such as digitisation, enterprise portal
engine, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies and many
more.
The implementation of VILIS project
will also include making available electronic resources to all
schools in Brunei Darussalam.
Members of the public are welcome
to visit the exhibition, which will be held at the UBD Library.
Access Dunia Sdn Bhd, Proquest,
Science Direct, Emerald and Ovid are just some of the exhibitors
that will be providing talks.
