Indonesian Woman Lands In Jail After Failing To Pay Fine
By Malai FadleyRizal

Bandar Seri Begawan – A 27-year-old Indonesian woman was sent to jail to serve seven months after failing to pay a $5,500 fine for violating the Immigration Act.

Nene Kusnaeni pleaded guilty to the first charge of entering and residing in the country despite having been barred from entering and residing in the country.

Three other charges stated that the defendant had knowingly produced a misleading passport to an Immigration officer upon arrival from Miri on January 21, 2006 and from Limbang on February 3 and February 17.

The court heard that she had been barred from entering and residing in the country since December 2005 but managed to re-enter by using an altered passport. Her passport bore a different name and date of birth.

She was arrested at Chung Hwa Middle School canteen_ on February 22 by Immigration personnel acting on a tip-off. The defendant was found working at the canteen during the inspection. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
