Islamic Da'wah Centre To Hold Jawi
Calligraphy Writing Contest

Begawan – The Islamic Da'wah Centre, Ministry of Religious
Affairs will this year be organising a National andAsean level Jawi
Calligraphy Writing Competition.
Carrying the theme "Da'wah Melalui
Keindahan Seni Khat" (Da'wah through calligraphic elegance), the
national level contest is open to citizens and permanent residents of
Brunei Darussalam while the Asean level contest is open to citizens of
Asean countries.
Among the aims of the contest are to
introduce Islamic calligraphy art as part of the Islamic civilisation
and to encourage writers to be actively involved in developing the art
in the country.
The event is also meant to promote
Jawi writing as a hobby and as part of Islamic heritage in the Malay
culture. The contest also aims to bring Muslims closer to the beauty
of Jawi calligraphy.
A total of four categories of Jawi
calligraphic writing will be contested in the competition, namely
Category A (Tulisan Thuluth), Category B (Tulisan Nasakh), Category C
(Tulisan Riq'ah) and category D (Tulisan Dewani).
For the national level contest, entry
forms and further information are available from the Contest
Secretariat at the Islamic Da'wah Centre and from Da'wah Units in the
respective districts.
Meanwhile, the entry forms for the
Asean level contest are available from Embassies, the Brunei
Darussalam High Commissions in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore,
Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam or directly
from the Contest Secretariat.
Complete entry forms must be
submitted to the Organising Committee, Contest Secretariat at the
Islamic Da'wah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Kg. Pulaie,
Berakas. The closing date is on Thursday 8` June 2006 at 4.00pm.
