Stop Using Renu Solution: MoH

Begawan – Brunei's Ministry of Health has advised people to
stop using' Bausch and Lomb's ReNu multi-purpose lens solution as a
precautionary measure following a rise in fungal eye infection cases
among contact lens users in Singapore.
In a statement released yesterday in
the wake of the Bulletin's article on Wednesday, the ministry advised
users to stop using the lens solution immediately as it has the
potential to cause serious consequences to eyesight caused by fungal
infection to the cornea.
Bausch and Lomb has suspended sales
of the product to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
Contact lens users have been advised
to use other alternative solutions and to practise proper care and
correct use.

had reported on Tuesday that there has been a rise in the number of
fungal infections of the eye among contact lens users in Singapore. A
total of 39 cases were detected, up from the 22 reported previously.
Thirty-five people out of the 39
contact lens users infected with the Fusarium solari fungus said they
had used the solution. A majority of the 39 cases started developing
the infection in the second half of last year. Most of those infected
were teenagers and young adults, aged between 15 and 24 years. --
