Changes In US Visa Issuance System
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The US Embassy has announced that there has been an
extension in the length of time international students may be issued
their student visas.
This is one of the elements of the
recently announced US policy statement, which envisions enhancing
border security while streamlining security processes and facilitating
travel for visitors to the United States.
The extension applies to student
visas (status F and M), academics as well as other exchanges visa
(status J). Students applying for initial-entry F-1 and F-2, M-1 and
M-2 visas may now be issued those visas up to 120 days before their
academic programme start date, as compared to 90 days under previous
regulations.
Meanwhile, visas for academics and
other exchanges may be issued at any time before the beginning of
their programmes.
These changes apply only to
initial-entry students. Continuing students may apply for new F or M
visas at any time as long as they have maintained their student status
and their Student and Exchange Visitor Information (SEVIS) records are
current.
