Events To Lure Young To Book Fair

Begawan - More than 100 children showed their air talents by
participating in colouring and drawing competitions held as side
events of the Brunei Book Fair 2005 at the Indoor Stadium of
Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas yesterday morning.
Visitors to the fair not only can
purchase books at discounted prices but also can take part in
various activities as well as witness various events organised
during the fair.
"For children, we are organising
drawing and colouring competitions for those in the age of five to
six, seven to nine and 10 to 12," said Suip Hj Wahab, head of Brunei
Book Fair Activities Committee.
Suip
said a prize presentation ceremony for the art competitions will
take place on March 7 at 1.45pm.
Winners of these competitions will
be notified by telephone and are required to attend the prize
presentation ceremony.
Apart from colouring and drawing
competitions, there are mind tests, quizzes and stage activities
such as treasure hunt, spontaneous quiz and word guess, screen tests
as well as stage performances by DBP staff, Kelab Muda Mudi and
tausyeh. All these activities will be organised throughout the book
fair until March 7.
Suip said workshops to be conducted
by local experts such as Jawi writing, drawing and story-telling
will also be organised. "There is a motivational talk to be held at
the Activity Room on Saturday afternoon," he said.
Some 45 participants occupying 75
booths are currently taking part in the book fair which features
book publishers, sellers and distributors and also computer vendors.
Brunei Press Sdn Bhd, the publisher
of Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata, also exhibited its
publications at the fair.
Apart from local book
establishments, the event also attracted related companies from
Jordan, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Selangor, Perak and Singapore.
Government publishers such as the
Language and Literature Bureau, State Mufti Office, Museums
Department, Postal Services Department, Islamic Propagation Centre
and Brunei History Centre are among the local participants at the
fair.
Computer vendors like Advance
Computer, Comsoft System, Concept Commercial Suppliers and WYWY
Enterprise are also exhibiting their latest ICT products at the
event.
De Heritage has set up a room to
cater for internet surfers at $1 per hour which is a boon for
foreign exhibitors to get in touch with their companies as well as
families. --
