Vendors Lament Cool Response At KB
Tsunami Charity Sale
By Hjh Saemah Zulkefli
Kuala Belait -
The general public turnout at Tsunami Fund Charity Sale
currently held at the Municipal Hall in Kuala Belait has been
relatively low since the event's opening on February 18, participating
vendors said yesterday.
Some traders said that based on past
experiences, such bazaar-like business was far more robust in the
areas of Bandar Seri Begawan as compared to Kuala Belait and Seria.
The reason for low sales was believed
to be the close proximity of the two towns to neighbouring Miri which
is just a bridge and some distance away. The charity sale, which ends
March 1, is managed by the committee members of the Tsunami Disaster
Relief Fund of the Belait District and the Belait Youth Council.
An inauguration ceremony was held
yesterday to mark the event, attended by the Belait District Officer,
Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yussof bin Bakar.
Some 27 stalls are housed in the
Municipal Hall, while 15 more are situated outside selling flowers and
food, among others.
The rent for a stall unit is B$200
inside the hall and B$50 outside. The charity sale is open daily from
l0am to 10pm. --
