Belait Primary Schools Compete In Quran & Prayer Contest

Bandar Seri Begawan - Eight qualified student contestants entered the final stage of the "Azan Subuh" (dawn prayer) contest, while another eight took part in the "Mcnghafaz Ayat-ayat Lazim" (Essential Quranic Verses) contest for primary schools in the Belait District.

The events were held at the PSJ Abdul Momin Kampung Pandan Primary School yesterday.

For the "Azan Subuh" contest, the first place winner was Awg Md Adi bin Alias from Kuala Belait Primary School, while the first runner up was Awg Md Izzudin bin Hj Ramlee from St. Michael's School, Seria. Awg Md Abu Hurairah bin Ariffin from Merangking Primary School took the second runner-up place.

Meanwhile Dyg Madihah bte Hj Mohd Naim of Sungai Liang Primary School won first place in the "Menghafaz Ayat-ayat Lazim" contest, while second place went to Dyg Siti Hafizah Al-Hazigah bte Ariffin of Merangking Primary School, and the third place, Dyg Siti Nurasyikin bte Afendi of Sungai Tali Primary School.

On hand to present the prizes to the winners was Awg Hj Ismail bin Hj Arshad, Head of Spiritual Unit, Co-curriculum Education Department, who was the guest of honour at the event.

The contest is held yearly with the aim of raising the standards of Quranic recitation ability whilst cultivating interest among young children. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
