Brunei Invited To Join Labuan Boat Race

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei paddlers have the opportunity once again to show that they are the king of regional boat races as they have been invited to participate in the Labuan Traditional Boat Race 2005 in Labuan from April 16-17.

Event Manager, Malai Hashim Malai Hassan, an officer at the Labuan Tourism Action Council said apart from Brunei paddlers, racers from Sarawak, Sabah, Kalimantan and Jakarta have also been invited.

"We also invited teams from Philippines Amateur Rowing Association, Singapore Dragon Boat Association and Bangkok International Swan Boat Association to add spice to the races," he said.

He said the traditional boat race is an event under the annually-organised Labuan International Sea Challenge that will take place at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex Beach.

Paddlers can participate in the Sea Challenge 2005 comprising of 12 members, eight paddlers, two reserve paddlers, a manager and a trainer.

"Champion will win RM3000, runners-up RM2000, and third placing RM1000. 4th and 5th placing will win RM700 and RM500 respectively," he said.

The top three teams will also be given trophies and certificates of participation.

Interested teams will need to pay registration fee of RM 100 each payable to Labuan Tourism Action Council (account no 1501-0010237-05-6 at Bumiputera Commerce Berhad).

Closing date for entries will be March 22 while closing date for payments would be on April 1.
