Bargain ICT Books Up For Grabs At
Book Fair
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Primary school students may find themselves a huge
bargain as they could purchase books on Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) at unbelievable prices at the Brunei
Book Fair 2005 currently being held at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal
Bolkiah Sports Complex in Berakas.
Written by a senior lecturer of
Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), Hj Kamsani Hj Ahmad, all proceeds
from the sale of the books - Panduan Mudah Ke Arah Teknologi
Makiumat dan Komunikasi Level I to 3 - will go to the Tsunami
Disaster Relief Fund; thanks to a sponsor, De Heritage.
Hj
Kamsani said the books, written in Malay language, are on offer at
$3.50 each. They normally cost $9.50 each.
The books meant to bridge the
digital gap can be found at a booth dedicated towards the tsunami
fund. Hj Kamsani translated the three titles from the English
versions, which were also written by him.
"It took me two years to translate
the English-version books. "The three books are meant for Primary I
to 3 pupils," he added.
Hj Kamsani had written ICT
textbooks and workbooks for Primary I to 6 in English, which were
introduced to various primary school teachers in the Brunei-Muara
and Tutong districts in Jan 2005.
Hj Kamsani said he was inspired to
produce ICT books for primary level students after discovering that
there was no such text currently available in the market. Prior to
writing the books, Hj Kamsani were authors of computer books such as
"An Easy Guide to Microsoft Word". He had also written papers on
electrical, electronic, magnetic engineering and ICT.
His interest started when he
struggled to figure out a problem with a very old computer back in
1991.
His interest deepened as he started
to learn more about computers through friends, magazines and
correspondence courses. --
