Book Fair To Encourage Reading Culture In Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan – Cooperation among government agencies is needed to encourage the reading culture and to make the residents more knowledgeable.

Pehin Dato Dr Haji Awang Hussain, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, made the remarks while launching the Brunei Book fair 2005 yesterday.

The Minister expressed confidence that reading materials such as books would always be relevant and needed for important references in the nation's learning process despite the existence of information and communication technology like the internet.

Pehin Dato Dr Haji Awang Hussain also launched 30 books produced by the Language and Literature Bureau.

Around 42 participants representing local and regional book dealers took part in the ten-day book fair held at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium Sport Complex.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Tsunami Disaster Humanitarian Fund.

The fair opens daily from 8.30am to 10 pm except on Friday during which it opens from 8.30am to 11.30am and from 2.30pm to 10pm. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
