Sultan Grants Audience To Visiting Pakistani General

Bandar Seri Begawan – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei, received in audience General Ehsan Ul-Haq, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Committee of Pakistan, at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday.

General Ehsan Ul-Haq is in Brunei for an official visit.

During the audience, General Ehsan Ul-Haq was accompanied by Retired Major Badr-ud-Deen, Pakistan High Commissioner to Brunei.

Also present at the audience were Pehin Major General Dato Awang Haji Halbi, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; Pehin Dato Awang Haji Hazair, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office; and, Pehin Colonel Dato Awang Haji Mohd Yasmin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

In another part of the Istana Nurul Iman, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha granted an audience to Madam Begum Yasmin Ehsan, wife of the visiting Chairman of Pakistan’s Military Joint Chief of Staff Committee.

At the audience, Her Majesty received a souvenir from Madam Begum Yasmin Ehsan.

Madam Begum Yasmin is accompanying her husband, General Ehsan Ul-Haq, who is in the country for a three-day official visit.

Also present at the audience were Datin Hajah Kalthum binte Haji Suhaili, wife of the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; Madam Saleha Badr-Ud-Deen, wife of the Pakistan High Commissioner to Brunei; and, Datin Dayang Hajah Rosnah.

In the meantime, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, also received the visiting Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-Of-Staff Committee of Pakistan, at the Balai Penghadapan Bukit Kayangan.

During the occasion, His Royal Highness and General Ehsan Ul-Haq discussed bilateral matters as well as regional and international affairs.

General Ehsan Ul-Haq is in the sultanate as part an introductory tour to Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei following his appointment on October 8, 2004. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
