Pakistani General In Brunei To
Enhance Defence Ties

Begawan – General Ehsan Ul-Haq, the visiting chairman of
Pakistan's Military Joint Chief of Staff Committee, visited the
Ministry of Defence in Bolkiah Garrison yesterday.
The Pakistani Joint Chief of Staff
Chairman arrived in Brunei Thursday for a three-day official visit.
Shortly after arrival at the
garrison, he received a salute and inspected a guard of honour mounted
by the Second Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Force.
General Ehsan Ul-Haq paid a courtesy
call on YAM Pengiran Retired Major General Pengiran Haji Ibnu Ba'asith,
the Deputy Minister.
Also present were Pehin Major General
Dato Awang Haji Halbi¸ the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces,
and Pehin Colonel Dato Haji Mohammad Yasmin, the Permanent Secretary
at the Ministry of Defence.
General Ehsan Ul-Haq also paid
separate courtesy calls on Pehin Major General Dato Awang Haji Halbi,
the RBAF Commander, and Pehin Colonel Dato Haji Mohammad Yasmin, the
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.
He later heard a briefing on the
structural organisation of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces by the
Director of Intelligence.
Defence
bilateral relations between Brunei and Pakistan began with the signing
of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Defence between His
Majesty Sultan of Brunei and the government of Pakistan in May 2004.
The aim of General Ehsan's visit is
to enhance the already established friendly relations and cooperation
between the defence forces of the two countries.
