Fire Razes Gadong Shophouse Unit

Bandar Seri Begawan - An early morning fire yesterday damaged two floors of a building unit and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage at Wysma Syahryza in Menglait, Gadong.

The fire destroyed two floors of an office supplies company which provided office equipments including computers and photocopier machines.

Quick action by firefighters from the Fire Services Department had prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.

A tenant at the third floor of the damaged unit, Leo Marcella told the Bulletin that he heard a loud explosion at about 2.45am.

"At first, I didn't think much of it and went back to sleep. But a while later, I could smell something was burning."

"As I switched on the light I was horrified to see smoke filling up my room."

"I shouted fire and woke up everyone else in my unit.

We called the fire services department," he said. Leo thanked the quick action of the firefighters who came as fast as they could.
