Belait Municipal Board Celebrates Hijrah

Kuala Belait - Over 100 officers and staff of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board attended a ceremony to mark the new Islamic year at the Jalan Maulana Government Rest House yesterday.

The guest of honour was Acting Chairman of the Municipal Board Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Mohd Yussof

The event began with al-Quran verses read by Dayang Sahnah binti Timbang, a staff member of the Municipal Board.

The highlight of the ceremony was a religious talk presented by guest speaker from the Pusat Dakwah Islamiah Ustaz Haji Shahroni bin Haji Abdul Kahar.

In his speech, he said Hijrah means changing for the better and efforts must he made everyday to sustain such changes so a person improves, be it in religious activities, work, attitude or behaviour.

He added that Allah favours those who try to improve their work quality, and good intentions will be rewarded in the afterlife, unlike worldly gains which are based on a person's social standing.

"It is therefore important to carry out your duties and responsibilities with sincerity and honesty," he said.

The function, organised by the Religious Department of the Sports and Social Welfare Organisation, is held annually to welcome the new Islamic year to strengthen relationships between staff members while raising awareness on welfare issues. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
