Book Fair Opens At Indoor Stadium
Tomorrow

Begawan - Some 75 booths of 45 participants representing local
and regional book dealers, distributors, publishers, vendors and IT
establishments, are set to open the Brunei Book Fair 2005 tomorrow at
the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex, Berakas.
The book fair is organised by the
Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports
in conjunction with the 21st National Day celebration.
Participants of the annual book
exhibition come from Malaysia, Singapore and Jordan as well as local
establishments.
An elaborate opening ceremony is set
to take place tomorrow at 9am until about 11.30am.
The organising co-secretary of the
fair, Hidop Hj Md Zin told the Borneo Bulletin at the rehearsal for
the opening ceremony yesterday afternoon that there are plenty of side
events that call for public participation at the fair.
"Colouring and drawing competition,
quiz, mind tests, stage activities, jawi writing competition,
gulingtangan and youth club performance, theatre plays, tausyeh and
many more that are designed to make the fair so lively and
entertaining.
"Students 'and the public can also
purchase DBP books at rock-bottom prices," he said.
The ten-day fair is expected to be
visited by book and technology lovers, including students as in past
years.
It will be open from 8.30am to 10pm
daily except Friday where it will open from 8.30am to 11.30am and
2.30pm to 10pm.
"Its objectives include to increase
greater appreciation of books and to bring together e-learning
providers under one roof to enable these group of people not only to
appreciate books but also the state-of the-art teaching and learning
aids such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in
education," lie added.
He said the book fair is a great
opportunity for exhibitors to promote their latest publications and
products as well as a better way for them to advertise their
companies.
"Over the years, our book fair has
grown to become an acknowledged regional buyer-seller meeting ground
for the consumer books and ICT segments.
The exhibition has grown in stature,
size and visitor turn-out ever since it began, in line with the growth
of the local book market," he said. --
