Local Women Fined $3,300 For Meat Smuggling

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two local women were fined $3,300 each or six months imprisonment in default after they were found guilty of smuggling dubious meat into the country yesterday.

The two women, Dayang Hajah Mardini bte Haji Muhammad Noor, 37, and Dayang Zariah bte Timbang, 30, were apprehended last Tuesday for smuggling 220 kilograms of "MAJU" Chicken Wings.

They were caught by officers from the Customs Preventive Unit and the Halal Meat Import Certification Committee after they failed to show entry permit document for bringing in the goods.
