Malaysian Designer Batik Silk
Available In Brunei

Begawan - Malaysian-made designer batik silk, which
possesses an authentic identity, exquisite quality and exclusive
design, can now be found in Brunei.

Srivaria Batik Decor (SBD) Sdn Bhd, managing director, said the
exclusive price of designer batik and silk has been reduced to the
promotion price of $180 from the usual $260, to celebrate the 21st
National Day.
The designer batik and silk
products are available at booth No 2, 7 and 8 at The Mall's National
Day Exhibition, Gadong, until Feb 27.
The company is organising batik
design competitions at The Mall today (Feb 24) at 8 pm, tomorrow
(Feb 25) at 9 pm and on Feb 27 at 5 pm, he said.
"Three $300 vouchers can be won by
the public. The vouchers are redeemable at our outlet," he said.
SBD is the sole distributor of the
Malaysian world-famed batik and silk products of Permint SuteraSemai
Sdn Bhd (PSSB), a child company of Syarikat Perbadanan Memajukan
Iktisad Negeri Terengganu (PMINT).
The batik and silk products of PSSB
are marketed under the popular label, Suteramas.
A memorandum of
agreement was signed last month in Terengganu between PSSB,
represented by Mahadi Ibrahim,executive director, and Faridah Hanim,
financial officer, and SBD represented by Pg Mohd
Su'ud Pg Abdullah, its director, and Muhammad Azlan,
managing director.
With the signing of the MoA, Brunei
became the second export market for PSSB after Singapore, with
market product valued at RM250,000.
Previously, locals procured
Suteramas label through direct purchases from Malaysian premises.
The Suteramas label in male
and female ready-made clothes, scarves, shawls, pareos, ponchos,
casual batik wear for young people, house accessories and souvenirs.
Muhammad Azlan said his company will franchise the label to 35
people who will be allowed to open shops in Brunei, Kota Kinabalu,
Labuan, Kuching, and Sandakan.
"We are allowed to offer franchise
to a maximum of 100 people and so far we have signed agreements with
35 people," he said.
He also welcomed locals to take a
six-month course in batik painting, where four months will be spent
in Brunei, one month in Terengganu and a one-month industrial stint
at Srivaria.
"After the course, they are free to work or open up
shops and Srivaria will help them to secure bank facilities for such
purpose," he said.
He said the company may also open its own batik
and silk factory here. --
