50 Medics Take Part In Microbial
Talk At UBD

Begawan - Some 50 medical personnel and students from the
Institute of Medicine and Universiti Brunei Darussalam on Monday
attended a talk on "Microbial Slavery- Taming Microbes To Work For
Us” at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
The talk was delivered by Dr. H.T.
Wickramasinghe, Consultant Paediatrician at the Department of
Paediatrics of RIPAS Hospital.
During the talk, he asked how to
make use of biochemical pathways or their end products for the
benefit of mankind.
He then proceeded with a detailed
presentation on the many ways that microbes are already put in use
in many industries.
In addition, he also touched on
microbes as food additives and supplements as well as a direct food
source.
Before the talk concluded,
participants had the opportunity to take part in a question and
answer session. --
