Waitress Jailed Two Months For
Prostitution

Begawan - The Bandar Magistrate's Court sentenced a waitress
to two months' imprisonment yesterday after she pleaded guilty to
soliciting a male person for the purpose of prostitution.
The defendant, Liana bte Efendi,
25, an Indonesian national, told the court she did it not for money
but just for fun.
She was arrested two days ago by
several police officers in a hotel room in Kuala Belait.
Deputy
Public Prosecutor Mohammad Esnawi Hj Sharbawi told the court the
police found her with a man, known only as 'Roy' when they raided a
room rented by the defendant.
According to the prosecutor, the
defendant admitted to have offered sexual intercourse with the man
for $100.
The price was set by her `male
friend' known only to her as 'Jasem' and the proceeds would be
divided equally between them, the court heard.
The defendant admitted to offering
her service two weeks before she was arrested. She also admitted to
having had one client a week before, investigation showed.
Meanwhile, the same court ordered
36-year-old Mohammed Abdul Gafor Al Rashid to be remanded at the
Panaga Police Station for 10 days for further investigation to be
conducted.
He was charged yesterday with
letting Liana bte Efendi to be hired for the purpose of prostitution
within Brunei, which is an offence punishable under section 3(1) (a)
of the Woman and Girls Protection Act (Chapter 124).
The offence carries an imprisonment
term of five years and a fine of $20,000 and whipping (provided
under section 3 (2) of the Act).
The case will be mentioned in the
Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court on March 3 at 9 am. --
