Brunei Meets Challenges With
Consistency
Bandar Seri
Begawan – After 21 years of independence, Brunei has shown
itself to be mature in dealing with various matters both within and
outside the country.
Pehin Dato Dr Awang Haji Hussein,
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, stressed this in an exclusive
interview in conjunction with Brunei’s 21st National Day
anniversary.
He said maturity or adulthood is
often used to describe something of age, experienced in progress and
development, and also wise in administration and management; a
process that leads to timeliness and perfection.
According to the Minister,
domestically, the Sultanate has undergone intensive physical
development and, at the same time, well able to face challenges with
capability consistent with its way of life, one that upholds
courtesy and mutual respect.
He said, as an example, is the
country’s way of organising various gatherings.
Every event held in the country
would be organised and carried out in an orderly manner, and any
guests of the country would be made to feel respected and paid
attention to.
These are some of the customs and
traditions that are being upheld as the country progresses.
He added that from the social
aspects, although the country and its people are confronted with
global challenges, they are nevertheless protected by inherited
cultural values that place them on the same level when it comes to
international relation.
He further said that with the
country's preparations in education and its awareness in religious
aspects coupled with His Majesty's leadership, the values of Malay
Islamic Monarchy would be protected and upheld.
Pehin Dato Dr Awang Haji Hussein
said that on each National Day, flags are flown and distributed so
as to arouse the spirit of patriotism among the people.
The national flag is the symbol and
image of the country as well as of sovereignty and national respect.
He said history has shown that a
flag can give rise to pride, respect and patriotism.
He expressed pride in the country's
young generation for having high spirit of patriotism and is aware
and understands the meanings of sovereignty and independence.
He said, such spirit must be
instilled at all levels of the community, which must be made to
realise that the flag symbolises that the country is always moving
to achieve progress and uphold its sovereignty. --
