Brunei Marks 21st National Day Today

Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei’s 21st National Day celebration began with the Mass Maghrib and Isyak Prayers, Doa Kesyukuran, and the reading of Surah Yassin at all mosques and suraus in the country last night.

In Bandar Seri Begawan, the focus was at the Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizaddien Waddaulah, Sultan of Brunei, last night joined his rakyat in the prayers.

Upon arrival at the Omar Ali Saiffuddien Mosque, the Monarch was greeted by Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Mohd Zain, Minister of Religious Affairs, and other executive members of this year's National Day celebration.

Also joining in the prayers were His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen.

The ceremony began with the mass maghrib prayer led by Pehin Dato Haji Awang Yahya.

The Recitation of Surah Yassin was led by Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin.

The Doa Kesyukuran was read by Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, State Mufti.

The Isya' prayer was led by Pehin Datu Imam Dato Ustaz Awang Haji Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

Before leaving, His Majesty received greetings from the worshippers.

The bertahlil and doa kesyukuran were held at all mosques, suraus and religious halls throughout the country.

The rakyat and residents in the country will witness the climax of the celebration today at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddein in the capital.

This year's National Day anniversary carries the theme 'Bersepadu Memperkasa Mandiri Bangsa' or 'Together In Strengthening National Self Reliance'. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
