Young Talents On Display At Nat
Age Group Chess

Begawan - 140 youngsters took part in the Brunei National Age
Group Chess Championship 2005 at Brunei Shell Recreation Club in Seria
yesterday. Nabil claimed the Under 8 boys title with 4 points,
followed by al Yurong Teng won in the girls' U-8 category with 5
points, with Haziqah was second with 2 points. Both Nabil and Yurong
Teng, at 6 years of age, were the youngest participants in the
tournament.
Munir
Azizi topped the U-10 boys category with 7 points. Second place went
to Muhd Najib 7umat (5) and Md Safwan (4) finished third. Siti Nur
Fatanah (5) won the girls' category, followed by Ira Kartika Dewi (5)
and Liaw Yik Re (3).
Muhd
Nur Arrifin (6.5) was the U-12 boys champion, while Muhd Zeeyad bin
Abdul Rahman (6) was the runner-up and Nazif bin Morani (5.5) was
third. Meanwhile, Munirah binte Ahmad in U12 girls after garnering a
total of 5 points, followed by Umma Athiiah bte H) Emran (5) and
Syasya Amalia bte Zaina (4) respectively.

Hafidzon PMO won the U-14 male crown with 6.5 points, Ahmad Bukhari Hj
Emran (6) was second and Muhd Siraj MunirAhmad (5.5) third. Siti Nur
Fatimah won in the girls' category with 5.5 points; she followed.by
Siti Khalillah (4) and Nur Hidayat (4) in second and third spots
.respectively.
Yee Soon Wei claimed the U-16 boys
title, scoring 7 points with Amir Fakhry (5.5) second and Sarif (5)
third. There was no female participant for this age-group.
Hj
Md Arif bin Hj Miamad was the U-18 boys winner with 6 points, followed
by Mohd Nazdri bin Hj 4'uneh (6) while Syairazi bin Suni (4.5)
finished third. Dk Qalila Pg Mohd Omar won the girls' category with
5.5 points with Farah Atiyah Hj Zainal (4.5) in second place and Siti
Syazwani (4) in third.
The one-day tournament was organised
by the Brunei Chess Federation. Giving away the prizes to all the
winners was the B1CF president, Hj Zainal Abidin B. Hj Mohd Ali.
